It's a birthday!

Grandma's and Grandpa's, here is the cake Andrew told you all about on the phone.=)  Thanks for calling and listening to him.  It made his day.
As for the cake, I almost didn't do a fancy cake this year but Glen wouldn't let me break from tradition.  What have I gotten myself into.=)  (It's a treasure chest from familyfun.com--Great site for fun easy cakes)  I still would like to take a cake decorating class so I can learn how to get the frosting smooth and perfect.  Hopefully before the next birthday comes around ...

So this cute little guy has been planning his "birthday party" for over a month.  (He's the planner in our familly.  Sure didn't get it from Glen nor I.)  He kept coming to us with lists of what he wanted, who he was inviting, and things we were going to do at the party.  I'm not sure where I forgot that I can play the mom card and say no, but how do you turn down a cute planner like that.  One of the things on his list was a pinata.  (Kel, thanks a lot.=)  Note to self, make a week in advance.  2 days before the big day is cutting it REALLY close.  (The sites I found recommend 3 layers and each layer takes about 24 hrs to dry.  We survived with 2 coats of paper mache and that heating fan truly saved us.  Lucky piece of equipment was rescued from the yard sale stock so I guess we'll be holding on to that baby.)  The morning of the big day, Glen and the kids were putting the finishing touches on "the mummy."
They used watered down glue to hold the first layer of t.p. on there.  The glue caused the pinata to soften up a bit so as I'm adding the candies, I'm afraid the bottom's going to fall out on me.  15 mins. before the party, I'm laying down for a much needed nap and dreaming about how the first person that hits it will make the whole thing fall apart.  Luckily, that didn't happen and I think it went through the line 3 or 4 times before some of the bigger kids were able to break the bottom out.
Poor mummy.  I thought it turned out to look like a white ninja, but I think everyone guessed correctly what it was.  Izzy was so impressed and has already requested that she gets to pick out the candies that will go in her pinata and says she wants a mummy too.  Which is really funny because we're supposed to be starting our Egypt study when we get back around to having history lessons.  Where do they come up with this stuff?

The kids had a good time and I'm so thankful for these friends that came to support our growing up little man.  Happy Birthday Andrew!

Can you believe we have 7 year olds? Time flies by! You did a great job on the cake. I had to come up with one for yu-gi-oh. I didn't even know what it was and had to look it up. I love you milk carton pattern. Did you by chance copy the pattern, I would love a copy if you did.
