The plan was to go on a walk and go to Walmart (picking up a new nightlight for Izzy to ward off middle of the night darkness fears) but we got sidetracked. We started reading stories. We read a Shel Silverstein book called "A giraffe and a half." I love his stories and poems. We returned "A missing piece" by him and that I think is my favorite so far, but he's hilarious. After that we read "The story about Ping" by Marjorie Flack and Kurt Wiese. I've got this book called "5 in a Row" that has different stories to read to kids ages 4-8. Each story is supposed to be read 5 days in a row (or close to it) so that each day you look at a different subject the book covers. Yesterday we talked about discernment and that sometimes something might look good, but it's really a bad choice and Ping was almost turned into a duck dinner. We likened it to Andrew's and Izzy's new hobby of coloring on everything in sight. (My friend Jenn thinks it's a daddy's not home, there's a new baby in the house, mommy's tired, let's push buttons and see how much we can get away with hobby. I'm not a big fan of this defiance but I do have to say that my lesson to Andrew worked. He has lots of schoolwork taped to his bedroom wall. I came in with a pen and scribbled on some of his papers ripping some as well. He wasn't so happy about that and hasn't colored on anything since. Izzy on the other hand, ... I have yet to find her weak spot.) Anyways, just because coloring on the wall looks like fun and something they wanted to do, doesn't make it right and just like Ping, you will get consequences.=) Perfect story. Today's lesson was on China. Whoa, we had fun. I taped a huge map of the world onto the computer room wall. Each story we read, we'll be discussing different places in the world. "5 in a Row" has little pictures for me to laminate so we can tape a picture of Ping on the Yangtzee River in China. We also talked about the clothes they wore and the way they looked different than us, etc. We got on Wikipedia to see what kind of pictures they had and found some more maps and some clothes. Then I found a language site and we learned how to say Hi! My name is ... (Pronounced Ni Haow. Woh teh ming tsuh--let's see if we can remember it.=) Then I got on YouTube hoping to find some people talking in Chinese so we could hear the language difference. That's when we found these 2 Chinese boys making fun of American songs. I had to share our favorite video which made us laugh so hard that we had to watch it a few times. I think this song is German, but it was on the radio for a while when the song was big. I love homeschooling. We can school on Saturday's in our pajamas and just follow whatever we desire. I love it!!!

That was a funny video! It didn't get really funny till about half way through when the guy started going back and forth across the back of the screen. Watching the video reminded me of the hours we spent together after we first discovered YouTube, just sitting and watching videos. That was fun. I miss you.
