Homeschool Celebration

Today was our first official day of homeschooling. Yep, we've taken the plunge. I've talked about it for ages, but when Glen was getting deployed, we were having a new baby, how was I going to homeschool on top of that. I thought putting Andrew in Kindergarten would be a good break for him and us. Little did I know how much work went into getting a family ready for the bus stop (he went to afternoon K, and it was still tricky), walking to the bus stop, walking home from the bus stop, squeezing in naps fore everyone (including me) in 2 1/2 hrs time, waking everyone up from naps to go back to the bus stop to pick him up. For that much work, it'd better be worth it.=) But his favorite things about school were getting to ride the bus, watching a movie every Friday (Barney, Berenstain Bears, etc.), and doing worksheets everyday. "Recess?" "It's o.k." "Are you learning anything?" "Today we learned a new letter ... C." Let me explain. Andrew and Izzy have been doing Hooked on Phonics and are both on Level 3 (they're reading. I've slacked off since school started, but they sit and help each other figure out words in any kids book. So learning the letter C ... hmmmm!) So why was I sending him to school again? Yesterday was his last day of public school and to celebrate, we went pumpkin picking. THAT'S WHAT HOMESCHOOL'S ALL ABOUT! We can learn about what we want, when we want. And if we're a half hour later than planned (which was the case this morning), Andrew doesn't get a tardy.=) Enjoy the pics.
"Come on guys. Let's go!!!" ... "Wait for me!" "I found one." "Uh-oh"

"I'm coming Izzy."
"Come on Alex, let's hike this way."
"Let me help you Izzy." Andrew's always being the lead man.
"Look over here!!!"
"I can do it" ... Since I had Calvin in the Snugli and not able to carry pumpkins, the rule was you could only have it if you could carry it.She carted it around for a bit, but wanted to find a better (orange) one.

Look how buff I am.
The pickings were slim, but we found the perfect pumpkins.
(Limit of 2 pumpkins per car due to slim pickings.)
What a fun day!!!
(Alex was already done and waiting for us in the car. Time for a nap.)
