We picked up some flowers and seeds from Lowes. Glen prepared the ground, I did the hole digging and Izzy did the planting. I showed her how to carefully break up the roots and put it in the ground packing the dirt carefully around it. Among our planting we found some grubs and other fun bugs and also found this fascinating thing.
What in the world is it? I thought it was a strange seed or ... I had no idea. I held it from the bottom (right side of this picture) and the top started spinning around in circles. It was crazy. Glen's first thought was some kind of chrysalis. Buried in the dirt? Some kind of worm? Turns out Yep. Found this pic online of a tomato hornworm pupa.

I showed Izzy the pictures and told her I found out what it was. The first words out of her mouth, "Mom it's a pupa (in a matter-of-fact-I already-know-all-about-it tone.) I asked, "How did you know that?" "I learned it in Science class. First it's an egg, then a larvae, then a pupa, then an adult." Wow smart girl. Guess she really is learning stuff there. I love all these cool finds and learning about it and the kids just eat it up. Homeschooling is so much fun.

You are so good!! Always impressed.
What is the Windcrest Ward gonna do without its resident nature expert? Is it okay if I still email you all my nature questions after you move?
We have 4 caterpillar pupa in my preschool class right now. In a couple of weeks we should have 4 pretty butterflies (pop-up butterfly treehouse IS as cool as tv says!)
