Too much fun with bread

Aren't these kids a hoot!  I mentioned before that I've gotten a little gung ho on the homemade bread wagon and my sister-in-law mentioned a girls night out they had watching a video from www.pantrysecrets.com  about how to make and shape your bread.  I couldn't resist.  $20 later, I'm waiting for my video in the mail.  When it got here, Izzy was mesmerized by the vast variety of bread items on the cover and requested we watch it right away.  I made her wait a day or so and when I finally started watching, I think most, if not all, of the kids were propped up on the couch watching with me.  The beginning was a tutorial with the one recipe they use for the whole DVD (used for everything you can even imagine) of how to make a batch for 4 loaves of bread.  Easy enough.  Then the rest of the video is how-to make hot dog buns, hamburger buns, pizzas, calzones, french bread, cinnamon twists ... basically any kind of bread you can think of, they'll show you step-by-step how to shape it.  Sure I could've probably figured it out on my own, but the process of having my girls sitting on the couch excited and requesting to make bread sticks and french bread was worth every penny.  So I made our first batch.  Should I just make 4 loaves of bread or do I try something new?  The girls made their requests.  Izzy really wanted to make breadsticks and Alex just really wanted to help.  They dressed for the occasion and had so much fun with every bit of it.  So far we've made the recipe 4 times (it has never failed) making bread bowls, some pizzas, a chicken and spinach bread braid, french bread, cinnamon twists, bread sticks and just yummy bread for sandwiches.  My favorite part about this recipe is that it's done within an hour.  Mix the bread for 10 mins., form your 4 loaves into what you want.  Let raise for 25 mins. and cook for 25 mins. or less.  Awesome!!!

Mmmmm...nothing's better than bread made by witches and princesses! I love you Jamie. You are such an example to us! Your sweet kids are so blessed to have a mom like you.

I'd say it was worth the money to get the girls in the kitchen with you! I'll bet they had a blast, plus the results were worth it I'm sure!

That's hilarious! Remember my other recipe that I make a lot but calls for soy lecitin? Well apparently you found it and it works great. My mother-in-law gave me pantry secrets for Christmas. I thought it was a totally weird gift, but I've used it a ton.

That sounds awesome and great job getting the kids involved. I don't have plans to homeschool but I could definitely use your creative techniques for things to do with kids on rainy days:) I'm also very impressed by your camping on the beach story. Cody and I are not big outdoors people so who knows when we'll actually go camping as a family but it was quite inspiring!
