Our last field trip for 2009 was to Mobius Museum. It's a children's museum in the mall and the kids had a blast. Andrew and Calvin spent the majority of their time playing with the boats in the water. Andrew kept making new tracks to channel the water and it was amazing to see how fast the water would flow in just the narrow areas.
Calvin also enjoyed the muddy sand pit. There was occasional water running from the shower head to make the sand perfectly messy. Surprisingly, the sand all stayed in the pit and not on the clothes or floor.
The girls (Calvin was found here occasionally) LOVED this Philipino hut. It had everything. Lots of imaginative play occurred here this day. It had this sitting room. Different girls in our homeschool group took turns being the mom or the shopkeeper or ... they just played.
There was a bucket of food that could also be taken outside to the Philipino market. The market was set up so the kids could sort the fruits and veggies into their own labeled bins. There were also baskets so the kids could "shop" at the market.
The hut also had a kitchen where they could cook their food and clean the dishes.
And the hula hoop. Very random but I've found that a pregnant belly and hula hoops don't mix. Although I have tried Walmart hula hoops in the past without the pregnant belly and I think I've lost the hula hooping touch.
Outside the hut was an outrigger canoe. Izzy liked canoeing and then went fishing with her hands. Don't you just love all this imaginary play!
They also had dress-up clothes and some of the boys were firemen while others were police officers.
Alex and Calvin tried out the 3 and under play area (although Alex is going to be hitting 4 next month.) The treehouse had hidden tunnels to get to other areas.
Bumpy slides are always fun.
And anytime someone has a reason to crawl on the floor, it's always a hit.
The most popular attraction was this backhoe. The electronic controls lifted and lowered the arm and scooped and dropped the gravel. Alex finally had the patience to wait in line for her turn. Calvin tried a few times, but would find something else to do not too long before it was his turn. Thankfully he didn't mind that he never did get to try the machine out. Sidenote: Calvin is bonkers about heavy machinery hence the surprise he didn't make sure he had his turn.
Bikes with video screens to follow traffic signals (I think. Never did get a close enough view.)
This car/pedestrian playground was built because a 13 year old boy racing a bicycle race was hit and killed by a car. This playground had everything possible from crossing guard uniforms and tools, police officer uniforms, cars for the kids to drive on the roads, crosswalks with different signals, and signs with rules to follow when crossing the road so they wouldn't get hit by the oncoming cars.
Children museums are great and Mobius in Spokane was definitely a hit!

Looks like Mobus has added a lot of stuff since I've been there!
