Andrew is our little Math freak. (I LOVE IT!!!) He's 6 and loves Sudoku. Who'd have thought? One day I was doing a Sudoku puzzle on the computer when he asked what it was so I gave him the quick answer. "It's a math puzzle." His response, "I love math puzzles. How do you play?" I'm thinking "yeah right" but explained the jist of it. My explaination wasn't even that clear, just enough to get him to leave me to my math puzzle. Apparently he'd caught on cuz he helped me fill in a blank or two. ... O.k. So I checked online for some easier puzzles (about.com has different levels) and made a printable Sudoku board. I print out the board and fill in the blanks from an about.com puzzle and he does the rest. He was into it for a while and always begging to do more. He doesn't do them AS OFTEN as he did, but still gets excited whenever he sees a puzzle. For Thanksgiving, we were at a friends' house and instead of hanging out with the other kids, he was watching over one of the dad's shoulders helping with a Sudoku puzzle. It still baffles me that my 6 year old can grasp this logic.
K, to the point of this blog. For school today, I was looking online for some math games to reinforce his math adding skills and found another fun math puzzle. Knowing his love for math, I called Andrew into the room and was again amazed this little boy was HAVING FUN doing math. Check it out and see if you can do it too. He can get the puzzle down to 1 or 2 tiles and then likes to start over. We'll work on scoring later but for now, it's a fun adding game. Read the directions first as it was a little confusing, but both Andrew and I are addicted.=)
