Izzy's Ziggurat

Isn't she adorable!  Our library shelf here at home had a book about Old Testament Crafts (or something like that) suggested from our history curriculum.  I don't think I'd even glanced at the book and I sure didn't say "Hey go pick out a craft."  Izzy just randomly said, "Mommy, can I make a ziggurat (she pronounced it cigarette with a z).  It was too cute to pass up so I said, "Sure, but now is not a good time."  Day after day, she asked, "Can we make my ziggurat now?"  Seeing that she was truly on a craft kick, we found a few boxes and some brown craft paint and said have at it.  The paint didn't do so well sticking to these boxes (shiny diaper box, ziploc baggie box, etc.), but I figured it was just the fun of painting that she wanted.  The next day, "Can we finish my ziggurat?"  Bad brown paint job?  Let's see what leftover spray paint we have (hence the funny red under coat.  We used up every last ounce we had.)  Since this little girl didn't want to give up on making the fun craft, we had to make it good.  She glued, tried to help spray paint (her little hands don't quite have the power yet), and the stairs.  Finally the craft is done.  Does that mean it's time to throw it away?  Nope, it has become a beloved part of playtime.  Who needs fancy dollhouses when you can build a ziggurat?!

Yeah, we've got CHAINS of hearts all over the house. Ian decided we needed decorations for St Valentine's Day! He didn't want to color them to they're all white! ;) I'm thinking a BIG chocolate Heart shaped cake for Sat dinner - goes well with the lamb Tangine. :)

Nice Zigurat Izzy! Wanna come over and teach Ian how to make one??? I've got LOTS of boxes. ;)

Hahaa very cute! Well don't be too disappointed there were no pictures of the tomato cake (they are actually on my facebook) I can assure you it really wasn't anything spectacular! My little one LOVES tomatoes so for his 1st birthday I had great plans of making a darling tomato garden cake. It just turned out to be a 9X13 chocolate cake, chocolate frosting with oreo crumbs to look like dirt and then a big "red" piped tomato in the middle with green leaves on top! It wasn't bad for a first attempt but nothing close to the masterpiece in my mind, haha!
