Swing set construction

A few weeks back, we bought a swing set and turned it into a family school project.  Andrew, Izzy and Alex separated all the wood pieces into piles and boy that was a chore.  The kids did great but it was tricky because the pieces weren't labeled at all and we had to figure it all out by board sizes and # of holes and placement of holes, etc.  Izzy was in charge of the measuring tape and was telling me how long all the different boards were.  We had lots of fun and Izzy got really good at that measuring tape.  It was yet another reminder that there are other ways to learn math than the traditional books and worksheets.
