You don't get to hear about our Alaskan Cruise yet. Half of our pictures are on the other computer and I haven't been able to transfer them. But I did finally get some pictures of the coolest science lesson ever. The kids were staying with their grandparents while we were gone and they took on full duties of parenting and schooling. Glen's parents are amazing.
Glen's parents have some neighbors that have been having bear problems in their orchard. Well, they were able to catch the bear in the act and shot him. My father-in-law was the one in charge of taking care of the carcass. Since the kids were there, they got to experience the coolest lesson ever. The only thing I'm sad about is that I wasn't there.

Here's a skinned bear.

Here's the hide.

And here's where the real lesson comes in. My father-in-law (retired school teacher) layed out a tarp and placed the organs for the kids to see and feel. I don't have the picture here, but he also cut the stomach open and sure enough, fresh big chunks of apples from the orchard the bear was snitching were still in the stomach. Alex told me all about the apples when we got back. It was so cute that this was the part of the lesson she wanted to share.=)

This is my father-in-law blowing air through the trachea into the lungs. Isn't that the coolest thing ever to see the lungs expanding from air being blown into them. Soooo cool!!!

See how much bigger the lungs are here.
Did I already mention I was jealous that I wasn't there?! The kids enjoyed the experience and I'm so thankful for such wonderful grandparents who also turn everything into teaching moments.

You should have a "graphic photo warning" at the top of this post! Just kidding. Very cool, but unlike you, I'd be verrryyy glad I missed that lesson. :)
I'm glad your kids enjoyed the lesson. I had a hard time looking at the pictures and would definitely have wanted to miss it but it's true they would never get the same experience from a text book! Way to think outside the box!
I can't believe they loved it and weren't scared or freaked out by grandpa giving a bear CPR. I can't believe how in tact the organs were, wow! You're family is amazing!
